Definition: FaceTime Audio

A voice over IP (VoIP) option in FaceTime, introduced in 2013 with the launch of iOS 7. Similar to Skype, which came out in 2004, FaceTime Audio lets users make free voice calls over Wi-Fi without using up cellular or landline minutes. However, unlike Skype, which runs on every major platform, FaceTime Audio works only between Apple products: iDevices starting with iOS 7 and the Mac starting with OS X Version 10.9 (Mavericks). See FaceTime and VoIP.
