Apple's facial recognition, which debuted on the iPhone X in 2017 and third-generation iPad Pro in 2018. Face ID replaced Apple's Touch ID fingerprint scanner located on the Home button, which was eliminated in order to narrow the bottom bezel. See

This shows the infrared signals emitted from the iPhone X to scan the user's face. The Home button was eliminated, but the Raise to Wake feature turns on the screen when the device is moved.
