The lithium ion batteries in electric vehicles are an expensive component generally warranted for 10 years of normal wear or from 100,000 to 150,000 miles. The warranty does not apply to a battery damaged in an accident. For example, Tesla will repair or replace a battery falling under 70% of capacity within the warranty period. New batteries range in price from $4,000 to more than $20,000. However, repair shops may be able to restore a battery for considerably less.
