The lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles are an expensive component generally warranted for 10 years of normal wear or from 100,000 to 150,000 miles. The warranty does not apply to a battery damaged in an accident. For example, Tesla will repair or replace a battery falling under 70% of capacity within the warranty period. New batteries range in price from $4,000 to more than $20,000. However, repair shops may be able to restore a battery for considerably less.
Is Lithium-Ion Doomed?
