Definition: EIDE


(Enhanced IDE) An enhancement made to the IDE interface for hard drives. PCs began to ship with EIDE hard drives starting in 1994, and prior to SATA drives becoming popular, motherboards provided a primary and secondary channel for a total of four EIDE devices. The terms EIDE, IDE, ATA and PATA are synonymous (for details, see IDE).
