(DataWorks Corporation, San Diego, CA) A software company founded in 1977 that specialized in integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The company developed, implemented and supported open systems and client/server-based software for midrange manufacturing companies primarily in the high tech sector. In 1998, DataWorks merged with Platinum Software Corporation, Irvine, CA, and a year later, Platinum changed its name to Epicor Software Corporation. The name was chosen to signify the "core" operations necessary to place the customer at the center of its business.
