5) DDR5 is a main memory chip with shipments beginning in late 2021. Requiring new motherboards, the 64 gigabit chips on DDR5 modules represent a four-fold increase in bit capacity over DDR4. Four-slot motherboards can hold 512GB of DDR5 RAM, while eight-slot boards can hold 1TB.
