Definition: DBaaS

(DataBase As A Service) A cloud computing service that maintains a database management system (DBMS). Users access the database on a per-seat or pay-as-you-go subscription. The providers keep the DBMS up-to-date just as they do with software-as-a-service applications. A distinct advantage of a cloud-based database service is scalability, which can immediately adjust to increased transaction volumes. See DBMS, XaaS and cloud computing.
