Definition: DAW


(Digital Audio Workstation) Software running on a Mac or Windows computer that is used by professional sound engineers to record and mix digital audio tracks. A DAW is used to combine dialogue, music and special effects such as reverberation and delay. Many of the features of high-end audio editing software can be provided with open source software (see sound editor). See MDM and VST.
