Definition: Crypto Bowl

The 2022 Super Bowl was dubbed the Crypto Bowl because so many crypto firms advertised that year, including FTX, Coinbase and Crypto.com. The beginning of 2022 was a banner year for many crypto firms, but that began to fade as the year progressed. FTX went bankrupt. Crypto.com had many layoffs in 2022 and eliminated 20% of its workforce in 2023. Coinbase's stock price plummeted more than 70%, and it paid New York State a $100 million fine because it failed to perform adequate customer background checks. There were no crypto ads to be seen in the 2023 Super Bowl, where the cost of a 30-second slot averaged seven million dollars. See crypto winter, FTX exchange, Crypto.com and Coinbase.
