Definition: Copilot+ PC

An ARM-based Windows laptop computer that includes Microsoft's Copilot virtual assistant. Introduced in 2024, Copilot+ PCs use Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite systems-on-chip (SoCs), which contain the Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU). In the past, Microsoft had also used ARM chips in its Surface laptops; however, the Snapdragon X chips were designed for AI processing.

Local AI Processing
With greater access into Windows itself, a Copilot+ PC can handle AI functions locally rather than in the cloud. For example, Recall is like a photographic memory for the PC, and CoCreator can generate images. Speech can be translated in real time, and suggestions for editing photos can be made.

All Major Vendors
In addition to Microsoft's Surface computers, Copilot+ PCs have been announced by Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, Asus and Samsung. See Copilot and Snapdragon X.
