Definition: Cirrus Logic


One of the first fabless semiconductor companies. Cirrus Logic specializes in mixed-signal (analog/digital) chips for laptops, smartphones, headsets and smart home devices as well as the automotive market. Launched in 1981 as Patil Systems, Inc. by Suhas Patil, it was renamed Cirrus Logic in 1984.

With more than 1,500 employees, Cirrus has an extensive product line of codecs for analog-to-digital conversion. Its customers are major consumer electronics companies such as LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Apple. See codec and D/A converter.
