Definition: CEU
(Continuing Education Unit) One CEU is credit for education or training by a qualified instructor that is awarded to participants in a continuing education course or seminar. CEUs are governed by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training, which defines one CEU as credit for 10 hours of participation. However, there is no certification for this rule, and some professions such as nursing award one CEU for one hour of class. For CPAs and accountants, one CEU is typically converted to 12 CPE (continuing professional education) units.
