(CBT Systems, Menlo Park, CA) An acknowledged leader in the design and development of interactive education software for information technology training. Specializing in self-study courses that users can take at their own PCs, CBT developed a library of more than 600 titles for client/server, Internet, intranet, and mainframe technologies. CBT Systems was the U.S. subsidiary of Dublin, Ireland-based CBT Group PLC, which was founded in 1984.
In 1999, the company re-invented its corporate identity as SmartForce, "the e-learning company." In 2002, SmartForce merged with another virtual classroom leader, Ireland-based SkillSoft Corporation.
