Definition: Brave browser

A privacy-focused Web browser from Brave Software, Inc. that is based on Chromium. Introduced in 2016 and available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android, the Brave browser blocks ads and trackers, while informing the user how many were prevented. In 2018, Brave partnered with DuckDuckGo to add more privacy features, and it includes the DuckDuckGo search engine among others for results. Brave is known for its rendering speed.

The Basic Attention Token (BAT)
Brave has an unusual advertising system. Advertisers purchase BAT tokens to show ads on Brave's reward platform, and users receive a percentage of the tokens for viewing the ads. Users can sell their BAT on a cryptocurrency exchange or send BAT tokens as tips to creators of quality content they would like to support. See DuckDuckGo and Chromium.

Site Behavior
Clicking the Brave Lion icon in the search bar reveals the status of the current website. In this example, Brave shows no trackers for Wikipedia.

Ads Are Blocked
