Definition: Bluetooth brick

(1) A stand-alone, battery-powered sensor that measures temperature, motion or other variable and communicates via Bluetooth. Often ruggedized and built for industrial settings, Bluetooth bricks offer a convenient way to employ a sensor where cabling is difficult to install. Also called "sensor bricks," other small electronic sensors on the market are not brick-like and not necessarily Bluetooth enabled. Such sensors may plug into a receiver and are not stand-alone. See Bluetooth.

(2) A powered, rectangular Bluetooth speaker. There are numerous brick-shaped speakers, some with "brick" in their model names; for example, SoundBrick and The Brick. See Bluetooth speaker.
