A satellite-based Internet service from Amazon. Originally Project Kuiper and named for the Kuiper belt, an icy region outside the orbit of Neptune. Announced in 2019, Amazon obtained FCC approval for 3,236 low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites to cover the earth. With more than 150 in orbit, service to initial customers rolled out in late 2025.
Leo and Amazon Synergy
Amazon is creating transmission routes from its AWS cloud computing datacenters directly to Leo customers via its satellites. The technology allows AWS, already the largest cloud computing service, to reach the entire globe.
In addition, Amazon's Prime Video streaming service would become available to everyone on earth. Amazon shopping is also a possibility for integration, providing sufficient delivery services are available in remote regions. Then again, Amazon drones might fulfill that requirement. Stay tuned! See
