(Amazon
Elastic
Compute
Cloud) Cloud computing servers from Amazon Web Services (AWS). Servers are available running Linux and Windows Server. Fees range from as little as a couple dollars per month for the smallest "nano" virtual machine (VM) instance to several thousand for "xlarge" servers. There are also free servers for one year for low-volume customers. Using Amazon's programming interfaces (API), applications can increase or decrease processing capacity on demand (the "elastic" in the name). See
virtual machine.
Storage, Queuing and Content Delivery
Amazon's additional services include Simple Storage Service (S3), a cloud storage service for backup and content downloads, Simple Queue Service (SQS) for message store and forwarding and CloudFront, a comprehensive content delivery network with datacenters around the world (see
CDN). For more information, visit http://aws.amazon.com. See
