System) Also called "Air Traffic Services Message Handling System" (ATSMHS), AMHS is the worldwide ground-to-ground standard for aeronautical communications. Governed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the first AMHS system became operational in Germany for the military in 1996 and for civilian use in 2005. System) Alaska's coastal transportation system. AMHS provides a ferry route from the Alaska Peninsula to the southern end of the state, which borders Western Canada. The first ferry route began in 1963.
