Definition: ASIC resistant

A crypto mining puzzle that is more efficiently solved using regular computers with GPUs than employing specialized ASIC hardware. The puzzle is ASIC resistant because it requires a lot of RAM, and computers and GPUs have considerably more than ASIC machines. For example, the Ethereum 1.0 mining puzzle was ASIC resistant (see Ethash). See GPU and ASIC miner.
