Definition: AIX


(Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system, which runs on its midrange computers and mainframes. Originally based on AT&T's Unix System V with Berkeley extensions, AIX conforms to the Open Group's UNIX 98 Base Brand industry standard. In the past, AIX was also available on other IBM platforms, including the RT and PC. See Power Systems and IBM Z.
