Definition: AI rage

The anger over AI as it replaces procedures and people. As AI has become more commonplace, an emotional backlash has become more persistent and louder. In 2026, the Axios news website claims that AI rage and resentment are surging as AI becomes more powerful and disruptive. Axios claims that young people are increasingly angry and fearful about AI's impact on their education and career potential. There is concern that a white-collar bloodbath is in the horizon.

In April 2026, a firebomb was thrown at the home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman by 20-year-old Daniel Moreno-Gama from Texas. No injuries occurred; however, Moreno-Gama later smashed doors at OpenAI headquarters and was found to have a "kill list" of AI executives. See AI anxiety.

AI: The Backlash Turns Violent
The Backlash article in the May 1, 2026 issue of The Week magazine, which excerpts comments from both sides of an argument, stated that according to Fortune, the "Stop AI" movement is being driven by young people who have already experienced technology taking over their lives. The article cited CNN's Clare Duffy, who said that many people on social media justified the attacks on Sam Altman. The Week cited Brian Merchant's Substack newsletter that claimed "AI executives have been warning that they're building a tool so powerful it will automate millions of jobs, but seem shocked we're finally listening."
