Definition: ADSM
(ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager) The former name of a comprehensive software system for backup, HSM and disaster recovery from IBM. It backed up data from more than 25 client and server platforms to an ADSM server running on any IBM platform, HP-UX, Solaris or Windows NT. It also extracted data from popular databases and used its own RDBMS to keep track of all storage management functions. Renamed IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, the software uses a Web-based interface to protect data across wide area, local area and storage area networks.
