An IEEE standard for a Wi-Fi mesh network that forwards packets over multiple access points. Using the same network name (SSID) and IP address, an 802.11s network extends a Wi-Fi hotspot over greater distances and can also route around failures. Each node in an 802.11s network is a mesh station (mesh STA) that supports the Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP), although other protocols can be used. See
