Definition: z-height

A measurement of thickness. For example, 2.5" SSDs have come in 7 mm and 9.5 mm z-heights. A plastic spacer is required when retrofitting a 7 mm SSD in a laptop that previously contained a 9.5 mm drive. See SSD and x-y matrix.
