Definition: subpixel


One part of a color pixel. Three subpixels (one red, one green and one blue) make up one pixel. On a 4K monitor with 8,294,400 pixels, there are 24,883,200 subpixels, all of which must be rendered on screen 24 to 240 times per second depending on the media and the monitor (see GPU).
