A transceiver or emitter in orbit above the earth. Signals are relayed from the earth to the satellite and back again for radio, telephony, TV and financial transactions. A satellite is also the source of signals for GPS navigation and climate monitoring. Satellites are also used for earth exploration (water, minerals, etc.) as well as outer space.
