Definition: SuperDrive


The multi-function CD/DVD optical drive in Mac computers. By 2006, SuperDrives supported all the DVD formats, including dual layer (SuperDrive DL). In the late 1980s and 1990s, the SuperDrive was a 3.5" floppy disk drive that accepted Mac 400KB/800KB/1.44MB, Apple II ProDOS, DOS and OS/2 formats. See DVD drives, CD drives and floppy disk.
