Definition: SSD cache


(1) Solid state storage used as a cache between the computer's main memory (RAM) and a hard drive. The SSD cache holds the data with the most activity, and reading and writing the cache is faster than reading and writing the hard drive sectors. See cache and SSD.

(2) A staging area within a solid state drive (SSD). The SSD cache, which is flash memory, can hold newly written data until it can be moved to the SSD sectors. See cache.

(3) A buffer in the computer's RAM that provides a staging area between the computer and the SSD. The SSD cache, which is part of the computer's main memory, holds the newly written data until it can be moved to storage. See cache.
