Definition: SSADM

(Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology) A technology widely used for the analysis and design of IT systems. SSADM does not cover strategic information planning (SITP) issues or the construction, testing and implementation of software. Because it is an open standard, many companies offer SSADM support, training and CASE tools.

SSADM was commissioned by the CCTA in 1981 in order to standardize the many and varied IT projects that were then being developed across government departments. The CCTA investigated a number of approaches before accepting a tender from Learmonth & Burchett Management Systems to develop the method. The U.S. government is a major user of SSADM.
