(2) (Ethernet Over Sonet/SDH) Transporting Ethernet frames within Sonet/SDH frames. EOS uses "virtual concatenation" to bond SONET channels together to accommodate Ethernet speeds as well as lower-speed channels (DS1, DS2, etc.) that travel as "virtual tributaries" in SONET networks and "virtual containers" in SDH networks. See SONET and VT.

(3) (ETA OS) An early supercomputer operating system from ETA Systems, a spin-off of Control Data. In the 1980s, EOS was compatible with Control Data's VSOS operating system.

(4) (E/OS) (Emulator OS) A Linux-based virtual machine that combined the QEMU and Wine emulators along with the XFree86 version of the X Window windowing system. E/OS originated in 1995 as an open source DOS virtual machine. Although it was expanded in 2000 as a virtual platform for Windows, DOS, Mac, OS/2, BeOS and Linux applications, it was abandoned in 2008.
